LaVonne was born January 24, 1923 in Oklahoma City, Ok to Ora and Julia (Coulter) Manese. She was baptized May 21, 1939. LaVonne graduated from Pierre High School, Pierre South Dakota in 1941, where she also played in the band.

 She worked as a secretary for Whitney M. Young Jr., Civil Rights Activist, Cudahy Packing Plant and Anti-Defamation League of B’Nai B’Rith for over 35 years.

LaVonne was a proud member of the Omaha Round-up Saddle Club. She enjoyed playing pokeno, ceramics, reading her paper back novels and she enjoyed fishing.

 LaVonne Inez (Manese) Curtis was proceeded in death by her parents, daughter Julie (Curtis) Trotter and ex-husband Herbert H. Curtis. She is survived by sons, Herbert Coulter Curtis and Thomas R. Curtis (Tracy) and a host of great and great great grandchildren, cousins and many beloved friends.

Remember, if you didn’t get a chance to talk to LaVonne, call her by praying. She’ll hear you. She wants you to remember her as you last saw her.

Lillian Mae Johnson

Reflections of Life

Lillian was born July 10, 1942 to George and Pauline (Washington) Grixby in Omaha, Nebraska.  She departed this life on August 29, 2020 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Lillian attended school in Omaha, Nebraska at St. Benedicts and graduated from Omaha Technical High School.

She soon married the love of her life Jasper Johnson who preceded her in death.  Through this union there were 5 Children.

Lillian worked at Lozier’s for 35 years and was a foster Mother for 15 years.  She enjoyed church at Holy Name and Mt. Vernon also spending time with family cooking, baking and feeding family and friends.

Lillian is preceded in death by her husband; Jasper Johnson, Parents; George and Pauline Grixby, Daughter; Kimberly Johnson, Sister; Judy McCullough, Brother’s; George Grixby, Jr. and William (Billy) Grixby.

She leaves to cherish her memories: Son’s; Michael, Gregory and Douglas (Denita) Johnson, Daughter; Janelle Johnson, Grandchildren; Tyree Johnson, Necia Cooperwood, Dejah Johnson, Dae Johnson, Tykeisha Johnson, Great-Grandchildren; Tyson Johnson, Taeter Johnson and Kyrin Haynes, Brother-in-law; Anthony Johnson, Devoted Friend; Lillian Williams and many other loved family and friends.

Dorothy M. Becker

Age 91 – Preceded in death by parents, Faye & Leo Dougherty; husband of 56 years, Paul; son, Michael Becker; brothers, Ed and Ray Dougherty and sister, Lucille “Lou” Nielsen. Survived by children, Sherry Becker, Donald (Shelli) Becker, Stephen (Diane) Becker, Rick (Pam) Becker, Robert (Shellie) Becker; her little brown sugar, Devin; a host of loving grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.  Visitation: 5:00 – 7:00 PM Tuesday at mortuary. Wince M. Bonner,Jr.

Obituary

Wince “Mane” Bonner Jr., was born December 28, 1946 in Darlington, Alabama to Rose and Wince Bonner Sr. He was one of six children; brother, James and sisters Julia Mae, Mae Carol, Mary and Isabell.

Wince grew up in Pensacola, Florida prior to his family moving to Omaha, Nebraska. He continued his education at Kellom Community Center. Wince retired from University Medical Center after being employed there for 40 years. Thereafter, he continued his passion in helping others.

Wince loved the Lord and as a teenager was baptized at the Sharon Seventh Day Adventist Church. He volunteered at Sharon to help out with Vacation Bible School, assisted with the church’s Yard Maintenance and other Church Maintenance Projects and was a vibrant Sabbath School participate.

Wince faithfully attended church. He attended Bethesda Temple Seventh Day Adventist before his health failed. Wince built several relationships throughout the years with both of his church family’s and he especially loved to attend their Fellowship Dinners. Wince made a lasting impact with everyone that he met. With his winning smile and that gentle laugh, you couldn’t help but to love him. He could always depend on his cousin Tommie to be there for him, they were inseparable. When you saw one, you can always be sure the other wasn’t too far. Whether carpentry or gardening, he was always looking for something to do. Wince departed this life on August 29, 2020 after a long illness, He will be greatly missed by his family, church family and friends.

Wince was preceded in death by his parents; grandmother: Mary Evans; sisters: Julia Mae Fowler and Mae Carol Carroll.

Wince Mane Bonner leaves to cherish his memories, brother James (Carol) Bonner; sisters: Mary Alcorn and Isabell H.; cousins Thomas Crawford and Edna Golden; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Life Reflections of

Rondo Avant

March 11,1960 – August 29,2020

A time to be Born: Rondo Avant, was born on March 11, 1960 in Omaha, Nebraska to the parents of Henry C., Avant Jr. (Donna Avant-Stepmother) and the late Wilma Avant (Mother) both from Omaha, Nebraska.

A time to Wed: Rondo was united in holy matrimony to Sheila R. Avant, on December 18, 2011 and happily married for the past nine years and has been together for the total of twenty-two years. Rondo and Sheila enjoyed traveling and weekend getaways and rides to the casino.

A time to Reflect: Rondo enlisted in the United States Army ranked as SP4 and served a little over five years where he was a substance supply specialist. He was awarded an army service ribbon. After retiring from the armed services Rondo was a harder worker and a dedicated husband, father, uncle, and grandfather. Rondo loved promoting education he would give money to children with good grades.

Rondo attended Dominican High school in Omaha, Nebraska. He loved being around his grandchildren, taking long rides in his Grand Jeep Cherokee, he enjoyed shopping at Walmart and Bakers and had a passion for music.

A time to be Reborn: Importantly Rondo journey led him and his family to Believers Fellowship Church,

located in Omaha, under the pastorate of Pastor Bobby R. Loud, Senior Pastor. Rondo made the faithful decision to get baptized in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Rondo would faithfully attend bible fellowship and was a regular worshipper on Sunday Services. Despite his health challenges Rondo would push his way out to service just to be a part of services.

Rondo leaves to his memory his wife Sheila Avant, his two sons Rondo of Omaha, Laron (Jasmine) of Colorado; daughter Antoinette (Michel) of Elkhorn; two stepdaughters LaTia and LaTreia (Tawaukee) of Omaha; two brothers Reggie of Omaha, Kelly (Tracy) of Colorado; two stepbrothers Robert and Calvin of Omaha; one sister Gina of Omaha; two aunts Thelma, and Velma of Omaha; grandchildren Kelis, Kaiden, Kensyn, Keyona, Madeleine, Ava and Amir, step grandchildren ShaTia, TaShawna, William, Shakynzy, Tawaukee Jr. Omarion, and TeAunna. One uncle Anthony of Omaha and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation: 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 9th Roeder Mortuary, 4932 Ames Ave.

Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Thursday, September 10th also at the Mortuary.

Interment: Omaha National Cemetery.

Paul Leo Hanselman passed away September 4, 2020 at the age of 81. He was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa on August 29, 1939. He married Patricia Lynn Erickson on September 17, 1977. He is survived by daughters Stacey (James) Feak, Bonnie (Trevor) Jones, and Brenda (Josh) Neal, grandchildren Leo Feak, Sadie Feak, and Lane Feak, brother Lloyd (Mary) Hanselman, and sister and brother in-laws, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He is preceded in his death by his wife, Patricia Hanselman, father, Leo Hanselman, and mother, Florence Hanselman.
