Ann Wittwer

12/21/1941 – 10/8/2021

Omaha – Ann Wittwer, 79, of Omaha died with her husband at her side on Friday October 8, 2021, at Methodist Hospital from complications of a heart condition.

(Gladys) Ann Wittwer was born December 21, 1941 in Humboldt, Nebraska to Richard Kent and Gladys Bernice (Nofsger) Layson.  She spent her early years growing up on the family farm in Nebraska, between Dawson, Nebraska and Sabetha, Kansas, together with twin brothers Jack and Dick.  She graduated from Honey Creek rural school district in Richardson County Nebraska. A marriage to Gary Wittwer led to a move to Auburn, Nebraska where son Daniel was born.  She launched a Sears Roebuck franchise store in Auburn, managing and handling inside sales.  Ann and Dan moved to Omaha in 1967.

She attended Peru State College and the Kansas City Art Institute graduating from the University of Nebraska in 1968 with a Major in Business Administration and minor in industrial Design.  Ann was employed as an accountant by Commercial Optical Co. and Floorbrite, Inc.  She moved to management and sales at Cedric Hartmann Co. in the Old Market.  She developed a keen interest in real estate and obtained a Nebraska real estate license in 1981, including a broker-appraiser’s license and excelled in property management.  Over years she managed many rental properties in Omaha for multiple owners including 15 years managing 300 units for one owner.

In addition to being a loving wife, mother and grandmother, Ann was inventive and held a U.S. patent on a dispenser for viscous materials.  She was active in and served six years as a director of the local chapter of the National Association of Accountants, was a member of Mensa International and always ready to help someone.  In 1981, Ann became active in the budding Unity Church in Omaha.  As a volunteer she gave untold hours to the church and its mission becoming close friends with its founding minister, Rev Colleen Engle-Brown.  She was an avid animal lover, feeding furred, feathered, and finned critters year-round in her yard (but didn’t like snakes).

Those close relatives preceding Ann in death were parents Richard and Gladys Layson, brother Jack Layson and son Dan Wittwer.

Ann leaves to cherish her memory: husband Larry Wolfe of Omaha, granddaughter Laura Treinen (John) of Reno, NV, brother Dick Layson (Janet) of Omaha, nephew D J Layson (Mikeala) of Omaha, niece Heather McKay (Paul) of Atlantic, IA, and cousin Steve Brammer (Margaret) of Sonoma, CA, brothers and sisters-in-law Harold Wolfe (Jennifer) of Amelia, OH, Keith Wolfe (Ritha) of Murray IA., Rebecca Craft (Addison) Taft, CA, David Wolfe (Diane) of Des Moines, IA, Beverly Dailey (Ron) of Lexington, SC,  step-children Douglas Wolfe (Karen) of Council Bluffs, IA, Donelle Hale (Leigh) of Plainfield, IN, Kaitlyn Hyland of Denver, CO, grand-nephews, Zachary and Devin, grand-niece, Elizabeth, and seven step-grandchildren and longtime friend Colleen Brown.  All of us and her pets, Beau, Samantha, and Lewis will miss Ann.

Arline Elizabeth ( Ahrens) Mussman

Arline Elizabeth (Ahrens) Mussman

Late Friday afternoon, October 8th, Arline Mussman was told, “well done, my good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your Lord,” and went to be with her Savior. Arline was born August 28, 1925 on a farm near Alexander, Iowa. Her parents were Walter and Minnie Ahrens. Arline was raised in Iowa before moving to Nebraska where she met Oscar Mussman, whom she married on August 10, 1947.

Arline is survived by her husband, Oscar, their son Lyle and his wife Janice, their son Galen and his wife Jeffie, and their daughter Carol Jensen (whose husband Bill passed away in April, 2019); their grandchildren Lynn Schwarzenbach (David), Shelly Seitz (Joe), Leah Embry, Craig Mussman (Tzu An Ko), and Andy Jensen (Emily Soener); and their great-grandchildren Callie and Cade Schwarzenbach, Avery and Riley Seitz, and Ben Embry, as well as many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and countless friends and brothers and sisters in Christ.

Arline was raised in a Christian home, confirmed in the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church, a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran in LaVista, Nebraska and walked with Jesus every day of her life. Her husband Oscar loved her with all his heart and attended to her every need until her final breath. Arline loved her family, tirelessly served others, was a wonderful cook and baker of delicious cookies, breads, and rolls. Arline loved music and continued to participate in singing hymns with Oscar and her friends at Silver Ridge in Gretna until her final days.

Due to dementia, Arline lost her ability to remember and, at times, to think clearly. But by God’s grace, she won the battle to retain the essence of who she was: a loving, patient, caring, encouraging person who had a twinkle in her eyes every time she shared her sweet smile. She fought the good fight, finished the course and kept the faith. Everyone who knew her loved her and will miss her.

A funeral service to honor Arline and glorify God is scheduled Thursday, October 14 at 11:00 AM at Beautiful Savior Lutheran, 7706 South 96th Street, LaVista, Nebraska 68128.
