Graduated of The College of St. Mary and Graduate degree from Purdue University. Long time employee of Metropolitan Utilities District. Omaha- Gretchen is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Keith E. Winheim. parents, William and Emma Rubin, sister, Irene Bezdek, nephew, Bill Bezdek. She is survived by her three children, Christie Miller, (Charles Womack), Lois Marino, and Mark Winheim, three granddaughters, Aimee Limpach (Nick,) Melissa Miller, and Emma Little (Christopher,) great-grandchildren, Owen and Claire Limpach, niece and nephew, Jan Leichtle (Mark,) Larry Bezdek, and the extended Winheim family.
No visitation. Celebration of Life Service will be Wednesday, December 4th, at 10:30 a.m. Hope Presbyterian Church, 5220 South 159th Avenue, Omaha, NE 68135. Private family interment at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska. Memorials to the family to be determined later.

Pearline “Pearl” Beal

1931 ~ 2019

Pearline (Pearl) Burgess–Beal was the 2nd child, first daughter, born to Joseph and Selvie Guyden-Burgess.  There were 13 children born to this union, in Clarendon, AR.  Pearl attended Carver High School, in Clarendon also.  She had one son, Larry Burgess.  Her Love, Mr. Clifton Beal, met and courted her, when she was living on the Farm, in Clarendon.  He later led the Family to Omaha, NE.  Pearl’s sister, Olivia Bray-Stewart and brother, Charles Burgess followed their Big Sis to Nebraska, the Heartland of America and land of opportunity, with the Packing House Industries.

During Pearl’s Life of Great Grace, she attended Philadelphia Baptist Church, in Clarendon, AR; Freestone Missionary Baptist Church, Omaha, NE, where her husband, “Beal” and brother, Charles were on the Deacon’s Board.  Beal was the Chairman and Charles was the Co Chairman of the Deacon’s Board.  They both could really Sing, Pray and showed Strong Leadership.  As a Widow, Pearl joined her Bro-In-Law’s Church, Second Baptist Church, Omaha, NE (Pastor Harbert Stewart, Founder; and later, her Nephew’s congregation, Pastor Nate Bray and Pastor Edna Perkins, Co Pastors of Jehovah Shammah Church, Int’l (The Lord is There).  Pearl’s favorite Gospel Songs were: “Amazing Grace” and “Near the Cross.”  She also liked Jazz – Louis Armstrong.  Her favorite color was Pink.  Pastor Edna was also Pearl’s Hair Stylist.  Pearl was very particular with who touched her hairJ Pearl was known as the “Lead DIVA” (Divine, Inspired, Victorious and Anointed) Woman of God. She LOVED Shopping, Dining Out and Traveling. She’s still known for being very fashionable with her clothing, Ear Bulbs, Pocket Book, Jewelry, Bracelets, Rings… her Rocking, Big Smile, Winning at BINGO, generous giving and her saying “I Show Enjoyed It” (Southern Belle Style) along with her delightful Burgess GiggleJ

Pearl’s husband worked for the City of Omaha and she worked for the illustrious Paxton Hotel. They lived in a fantastically beautiful home in the 1960’s.

Pearl and her Sister, Olivia were very close, like Peaches and Cream. First Lady, Olivia and Pastor H. Stewart passed the Mantle to daughter, Beverly Bray-Thompson to be Pearl’s Caregiver.  Bev and her Family, graciously covered Pearl, for 27 years, with Great Joy.  Bev hosted Christmas Dinner of which, Pearl was the last Elder of her Pack of Friends: Olivia, Pastor Stewart, Pastor J.D. Williams–Nephew, and Lorraine Thompson–Franklin’s Mom, at the Table.   

Pearl is preceded in death by her husband; Clifton Beal; both parents Joseph and Sylvie Burgess; Brothers – John and Charles; Sisters; Olivia, Ossie (Beatrice) and Doris.  Those left to cherish her memory include her Son; Larry Burgess; grandchildren, great grandchildren; Brothers and Sisters; Betty Smith, Josephine (J.C.) Parrish, Mary (Lovie) Gray, Gloria Rhodes, James Burgess, Roosevelt Burgess and Irene Roberts; Niece/Caregiver, Beverly (Franklin) Thompson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other Family and Friends. Pearl was Always ready to “Go Home.”  She’s Safe in HIS Arms.

Carl Hobbs

1958 ~ 2019

Carl Stacy Hobbs was born June 10, 1958 in Waukegan, Il. to Charles and Elsia Ray Hobbs.

He is proceeded in death by his Grandmother; Ella Bell Carr, Mother; Elsia Ray Hobbs, Aunts and Uncles.

Carl accepted Christ at an early age at Bethel Baptist Church.

He graduated from South High School and attended Bellevue College.

Carl served his country in the United States Airforce for 19.5 years enlisting in 1974 and served until 1993. Taking advantage of the early out program before he hit the 20year mark.

He loved his children dearly. Carl loved to take Adventures, Cook, Fish, Travel, Take Road Trips to Different Casino’s and spending time with his best friend Carman for the Past 23 wonderful years. He was a Chicago Bears and Kansas City Chiefs fan.

Carl leaves us to cherish and remember his beautiful smile, Joy for Life and His Big Heart. He always had an encouraging word or some great advice to offer. Children: Nanci Frazier, Carlissa Butler-Hobbs, Darrell and Taneisha Hobbs; Daryl Ridley, Carmilia and Lloyd Johnson,

Grandchildren: Alexander and Alexia Frazier, Imani and Israel Butler and Elijah Johnson

Paul Solomon James, Sr.

1945 ~ 2019

Paul Solomon James, Sr. was born October 10, 1945 in Gary, Indiana to Solomon and Dora Dorothy James. Paul was educated in Omaha Public Schools. Paul held a 100-meter track record at Technical High School for many years.

Paul was married to Ruthie Ford in 1963. To this union three children were born.

In the early 70’s, Paul was a dedicated engineer at Flanagan High School.

In 1968, Paul was united to Anna Lee Cole they had six extended children. During this time, Paul was a avid member of the Masonic Organization.

Paul loved fishing and western movies.

In 1990, Paul and his 3rd wife, Ernestine Williams moved to Birmingham, Alabama with their extended family. Paul returned to Omaha after the death of his sister Cookie.

Paul did not attend any church on a regular basis, but he believed in God and the teachings of his parents about God’s grace and mercy.

Special thanks to Kings Gate Apartments for the use of their facility. Paul also had many friends here at the Kings Gate Apartments.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents Solomon and Dora Dorothy James, two sisters, Doretha Dora Birch and Caroline “Cookie” Sarah James, 1st wife Ruthie Ford, 2nd Anna Lee Cole, 3rd wife Ernestine Williams and daughter Irene Dora James.

Paul is survived by two sisters, Pauline Terry, Omaha, NE; and Carol (Windell) Gunn, Council Bluffs, IA; six daughters, Bobbie Price, Yvonne Pitts, Omaha, NE; Arlene Williams, Denver, CO; April Jennings, Dallas, TX; LeeAnn (Carlos) Davis, Killee, TX; Catherine James, Kansas City, MO; two step-daughters, Anglea Graham (Dale) Omaha, NE, DaVonna Cole, West Des Moines, IA; three sons, Larry James (Jennifer), Hasting, NE; Solomon Clift (DeLisa) Atlanta, GA; Paul Solomon James, Jr. (Nanika) Las Vegas, NV; two step-sons Kiko Williams (Tanesha) Alabama; Cornell James, West Des Moines, IA; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be a Celebration of Life Service Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Kings Gate Apartments, 7055 Crown Point Ave, Omaha NE 68104.
