Gerald “Jerry” D. Dunlap

Gerald “Jerry” Dunlap passed away on September 30th, 2020 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Born in Ord, Nebraska on November 14th, 1941, Jerry was the youngest of three children to Elwin and Alice Dunlap.

Jerry attended Ord High School and Kearney State College graduating in 1963. Jerry lettered in football, baseball, track and tennis earning All-America Honors twice in football. Jerry earned his bachelors degree in 1963 and later returned to complete his masters degree in education.

Jerry moved to Ventura, California in 1967 to begin his tenured career at Ventura College where he coach football and wrestling, later becoming the college’s athletic director and dean of physical education.

While at Ventura College, Jerry’s teams earned multiple conference championships and state titles. Jerry served as president of the Western States Conference and was inducted into the Ventura College Athletic Hall of Fame as well as the California Community College Athletic Directors Hall of Fame.

Jerry was well equipped to have fun, enjoyed his family and friends immensely. He was an active member in his community, helping out at school and church events whenever asked. His infectious smile, laugh, and positive attitude stayed with him throughout his life and will be missed, but will stay with those who had the opportunity to know him.

Jerry is survived by his children Jerry (Katy) Dunlap and Krista (Patrick) Stephens. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren Lauren Dunlap and Natalie and Emily Pond. He is also survived by his sister Lorraine (Ronald) Peters and was preceded in death by parents Elwin and Alice Dunlap and sister Rosalie (Patrick) Barry.

A celebration of life will take place at a date to be determined.

Age 89 – Preceded in death by husband of 54 years, Leroy; parents and 10 brothers & sisters.    Survived by children, Linda Sutherland (Todd Porter), Roy (Katie), Carolyn (Steve) Stodola, Kenny; grandchildren, Dawn (Chris), Jason (Jennifer), Meghan, Amanda, Marissa (Ray), Josh, Jake, Sam; great grandchildren, Kasey, Zach, Keegan, Titus, Dylan, Peighton, Emery, Presley, Briella, Amelia; great great grandchildren, Rory & Riley and a host of other loving family and friends.

Merlin F. McRoberts (Mel)

10/28/1933 – 9/28/2020

Omaha – Merlin (Mel) McRoberts was born to Floyd and Lena (Matthes) McRoberts on October 28, 1933 in Atkinson, NE.   He grew up in Seward and Litchfield, NE.    Mel enjoyed hunting, farming and racing cars with friends.  At the age of 18, Mel was drafted into the Korean War.   After a short time, he was called home to take over the farm when his father fell ill.    Mel married Virginia Spotanski on January 5th 1957 at Lady of Mount Carmel in Paplin, Ne.  They were blessed with two children: Scott and Holly.   They raised their family in Omaha, Ne.

Mel spent his next 40 years working numerous positions at Sears and Roebuck.  He managed the houseware and automotive departments, but his favorite position was working in the warehouse as a furniture and appliance delivery driver.   Many humorous stories and great memories were created during his years at Sears.  After “retiring” he spent the next 15 years as a maintenance man at Child Savings Institute.  Mel was a jack of all trades, he could create, build and repair just about anything.  If you needed a tool, Mel always had it.   His summers would be spent crafting and vacationing in the mountains with family and friends.

His greatest joys were his grandchildren Britney and Matthew.   He loved being their chauffeur and attending all their events.    Mel is survived by his wife of 63 years, Virgie, children Scott, Holly Finnigan, grandchildren Britney & Travis McLaughlin, Matthew Finnigan and many family and friends.   He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters Lela Grothe, Nelda Barenberg and Orva Jean Turner.

The family will receive friends and family, Friday October 2nd from 9:30 – 10:30 AM followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM, St. Joan Of Arc 3122 S. 74th St. Omaha, NE. Memorials will be directed by the family.  Interment Wednesday (10/7/20) 12:00 PM Loup City Cemetery.

Elmer John Kienast, age 94 of Omaha passed away on September 27, 2020. Elmer was born in Gray, IA to John and Emma Kienast. He married Audrey Elizabeth Massman on September 17, 1949 in Manning, IA. He is preceded in death by his wife, Audrey E. Kienast; son-in-law, Dennis Irwin; brothers: Gilbert, Harvey, Maynard and Leland Kienast. Elmer is survived by his children, Daniel (Patricia) J. Kienast, Janeen M. Irwin (Bill Segebart); stepson, James (Judy) D. Hulsebus; brother, LeRoy Kienast; 9 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson, nieces, nephews and other loving family.

9/21/1937 – 9/27/2020

Omaha –

Donna (Zimmerman) Dean was born September 21, 1937, at home in Rulo, Nebraska.  She attended grade school and junior high in Falls City, Nebraska, and graduated from Central High in Omaha.  She worked as a typist at Mutual of Omaha 1956-1958.  Donna and LeRoy Henry Dean were wed on August 25, 1957, and moved to farm in Pierce 1958-1961, where she became mother to three children.  In 1961, they moved to a ranch west of Pierce, where their fourth child was born. They lived at the ranch until 1965, when the family moved to Omaha.  She was a loving wife, mother to two sons (Michael and Robert), two daughters (Susan and Sally), and to two sons-in-law (Chris Ganow and Roy Berke). She was blessed with five grandchildren—Jason Ganow, Amanda (Ganow) Stevens; and Matthew, Kyle, & Ryan Dean.  She is also survived by her brother Jerry Zimmerman. Donna was preceded in death by son Michael, 1988; sister Carol, 1993 ; sister Waunetta, 1997; and husband LeRoy in June 2020.

David G. Kohrs (Dave)

5/14/1941 – 9/28/2020

Omaha – David was born on May 14, 1941, near Johnson, NE. He was preceded in death by parents Herman and Alice and his sister Betty. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Linda, beloved children Steven (Mindee) and Michelle (José), and cherished grandsons Aiden David, Isaac David, and another grandson due in December. He is also survived by brothers Keith (Lorraine) of Pueblo, CO, Sterling (Naomi) of Beatrice, NE and brother-in-law Robert Wemmer of Yutan, NE. David has many cousins, nieces and nephews plus many dear friends who also mourn his passing. His family wants to thank the loving and caring staff at Heritage Pointe Memory Support and staff at St. Croix Hospice for his wonderful care.
