Beverly J. McCune

Beverly Joan McCune [Zarp] was born April 15, 1937 to Charles and Florence Zarp in Atlantic, Iowa.
She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1955. She noted in the yearbook that her favorite thing to do was to walk arm and arm with Jim.
She was married to James Thomas McCune on June 27, 1956.
Beverly’s working career ranged from executive secretarial work to real estate. She started working as a secretary for channel 3 in New York City while James was in the Coast Guard. Jim’s career at Mutual of Omaha eventually brought them back to Omaha and closer to their families. Beverly then spent days, evenings and weekends selling real estate for many years and then took on the role of Executive Secretary of the Nebraska Chapter of the Appraisal Institute.
She loved cooking and enjoyed trying new recipes. She even put together a cookbook [4 inch thick binder] including recipes from her and many of her friends; “We Cook When We Aren’t Playing Bridge”..
The house was often full of people playing bridge. Bev loved to play; James played to socialize with everyone and make Bev happy. Bev continued to play 3-4 times a week after James passed away. Her group even found an online option once Covid shut everything down.
She loved to go to the cassino and always insisted she thought she was ahead….that might be up for debate.
Beverly had a green thumb and loved gardening. Her garden always produced a pantry full of canned goods every summer and plenty of tomatoes for bacon and tomato sandwiches. Her green thumb continued inside with over 100 houseplants at one time.
She knitted, crocheted, sewed her clothes -making almost anything she wanted to wear or have for the house.
Beverly was a devoted wife to James for 59 years, mother to daughter, Christine Kunz [McCune} and son, Steven McCune, and loving grandmother.
