Richard D. Grell

11/26/1960 – 6/23/2022

Omaha – Richard Donald Grell – Age 61

Preceded in death by father Richard L. Grell, brother-in-law Randal Gottsch, nephew Tyler Hipsher and grandson Parker Jacobsen.

Survived by loving wife Christine, mother Donna Rae Comstock-Grell, children Jared, Nicholas (Allysa) and Nathaniel Grell, stepchildren Angela Eglseder and Erin (Jason) Jacobsen.  Six grandchildren:  Trina, Gage, Hunter, Ella, Jacob and Beau.  His 7 siblings include Deb (Pat) Meyers, Diana Gottsch, Daniel (Kim), Cindy (Rick) Moldenhauer, Randall (Cindy), Ann (Chad), Laura Pearson (Jay), numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and too many friends to mention.

Rick was 1 of 8 children – he was born November 26, 1960.  He died peacefully in his home on June 23, 2022 with his wife Christine by his side.

Rick has 3 sons:  Jared, Nicholas and Nathaniel – they have all followed Rick’s footsteps in having a career in construction.  In fact, his boys have worked with him for the same company at times over the years.

Rick has a twin brother, Randy.  Their dad, Richard, was employed by Dugdale Construction when they were born and thought they should be named “Doug” and “Dale”.  However, their mother objected and they were named Rick and Randy.

Rick grew up in Omaha.  He attended Boyd Elementary, Morton Jr. High, then Marion High in Arkansas, and then graduated  from Northwest High School in 1980.  Rick had a love for construction ever since he was a little boy.  He followed in his father’s footsteps and made a career of it.  He started in high school, then traveled all over the southern states while working for Jensen Construction.  He finally moved back home and started working as a superintendent for Rupert Construction, a family business, until they closed their doors in 2018.  He was currently employed with MC Wells here in Omaha, and he absolutely loved the company and what he was doing.

Rick’s family grew when he met the love of his life, Christine.  He now has 2 stepdaughters, Angela and Erin.  Rick and Christine dated off and on for over 25 years before timing was finally right, and they married in 2018.  Rick found the happiness he was always looking for after marrying Christine.  They found happiness in their love of golf, music and hanging with their best friends, Steve and Kathy.

The Grell’s have taken many trips over the years – California vacations, Florida vacations and many family ski trips to Colorado.  Rick’s last trip was just last week to the Dominican – it was an unforgettable trip.  Everyone – all 64 of us had a fantastic time (except for the flight delays!)

Rick always knew his life would be cut short due to several medical conditions he had, but tried to make the most of each and every day.  And if he could give one piece of advice, he would say do what makes you happy – don’t dwell on the petty stuff.  It will all work out.  Rick will be dearly missed by so many people.
