Workinesh T. Admasu

December 2, 1961 – August 10, 2022

On Wednesday August 10, 2022, Workinesh Tsetarge Admasu, age 60, laid to rest. Wearing her beautiful traditional Ethiopian dress, her peaceful demeanor betrayed a life of hardship, endurance, and triumph. At the age of 15, Workinesh left her home village in Northern Ethiopia to escape an abusive arranged marriage, and arrived at the capital of Addis Ababa, where she remarried and became a loving mother of five boys. During her life, she overcame homelessness, civil war, famine and the political imprisonment of her husband before eventually immigrating and becoming a citizen of the United States. For over 15 years, she worked at Anthony’s Restaurant, bussing tables and bringing joy to people trying to understand her English laced with her native tongue. The fruits of her toil and sacrifice as an immigrant lives on in her children’s accomplishments in education, business and in building their own families. She is survived by her mother Webet; her siblings: Beletu and Tageng; her husband John; her five sons: Mulugeta (Weinshet), Buey (Mariana), Rom, Beny and Zakarias; and her four grandsons. While her life journey was filled with challenges, Workinesh leaves behind a memory of love and devotion to everyone she has come across. May she rest in peace.
