Mary was preceded in death by her mother; Rose Maude Hunter, father; Harold Hunter, husband of 49 years, John T. James, brothers; John Beasley, Sr., James Hunter and Hugo Hunter, sisters; Cecilia Ricks and Delores Jefferson, step-sons; Willie James and Charles James and grandchildren; Kelly James, Jabar James and Thomas James, Jr.

Mother James leaves to mourn her children; Carolyn (Sam) Brown, Thomas James, Sr., Juanita James, Helen McGhee, Melford (Cynthia) James, Sr. and John T. James, Jr., sisters; Rozetta Dailey and Theresa Ford, brothers; Stanley Hunter, Tonto Hunter, Tyrone Hunter and Santone Hunter, 5 generations of grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Once all of Mary’s six children went to school, she went to work at Creighton University where she stayed until she decided to go to Metropolitan Community College to get her high school diploma.  Mary did not get her diploma but instead she earned an associate degree in Early Childhood Education and made the Dean’s List.  It made sense; one could not have asked for a better Mother!  Mary went to work with her new degree at the Nebraska Department of Social Service’s Child Protection Services.  After several years she decided to keep foster children and Candy Rodgers, Shekeeta Williams and Jackie Morgan became and remain a part of our family.  Mother James was an Eastern Star Queen Esther Chapter, a faithful member of Prince of Peace Baptist Church where she served as President of the Mother Board, and also sang in the choir.  Mary always greeted you with a smile, if you asked her how she was doing she would tell you that “She was fine like wine” and she would like for you to put her in the car and ride her until she sweat.  She loved Pastor Smartt he inspired her to do God’s work and would come to her house and pray with and “She for her as she aged and could not get out.  The family can not Thank him enough for his prayers and friendship over the years!  Sister Smartt would accompany him.  There is no doubt she is in Heaven with the Lord.
