The Rev. Charles Favors baptized Evelyn at Pilgrim Baptist Church at an early age. She would later join Morning Star Baptist Church under the direction of Rev. Z. W. Williams. While at Morning Star, Evelyn was involved in the Music Ministry and Gospel Thru the Arts. She also assisted in the church’s culinary department, was a member of the Seniors Club and her volunteerism led her to Louisiana with the New Orleans Outreach Project where she and other members of the church assisted in the rebuilding of New Orleans post Katrina. In 2010, Evelyn received a certificate of Recognition from Morning Star for her more than 40 years of dedicated service to the church – Even from afar, Evelyn watched Sunday services online and remained a member until her death.
Evelyn had many talents. She was an artist who could draw just about anything, she loved writing poetry, and her creative decorating skills could bring life to any home.
