Joan Ives Nelson

Joan Ives Nelson Age 85 of Omaha passed away July 21, 2020.  She was born August 7, 1934 in Omaha, NE to Duane and Anna May (Ives) Anderson.

Joan graduated from Central High School in 1952.

She married Walter Nelson on April 18, 1954 at Kountze Memorial Lutheran Church in Omaha.

She was a member of the Central High Lunch Bunch and the Pioneers Club.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband; Wally (1993), parents and grandmother; Clara B. Ives and son-in-law; Ralph Diggins.

She is survived by her children; Kathy Jahns (Mark), Janet Diggins, Bob Nelson (Jenny) and Scott Nelson (Buffie), grandchildren; Lauren, Haley, Tyler, Jim, Justin, Noelle, Melody, McKenzie, Brandin, Brady and Savanna, 16-great-grandchildren, sister; Barbara Carpenter, brother; Duane Anderson, Jr. and many family and friends.

Visitation: Noon to 2:00 PM Sunday, July 26th at Roeder Mortuary, 2727 N. 108th St. Chapel.

Celebration of Life Service: 1:00 PM Monday, July 27th Kountze Memorial Lutheran, 2650 Farnam St.

Interment: Westlawn/Hillcrest Cemetery

In lieu of flowers, memorials and donation of non-perishable items may be directed to the Kountze Memorial Church Food Pantry.

Joyce E. Lenon

5/18/1936 – 7/19/2020

Joyce E Lenon was born May 18th 1936 in Wahoo Nebraska and passed July 19th 2020 at the Prairie Meadows Alzheimer’s Special Care Center. Joyce is survived by her son Tim Lenon of Omaha Nebraska, Sister Kathy Nelson of Atlantic Iowa, Sister in Law Lavonne Lenon of Omaha Nebraska, Sister in Law Carol and and Brother in law Andy Svendgard of Fremont Nebraska, Brother in Law Harold Ashworth of Omaha Nebraska, and many nieces, nephews, loving friends and extended family.

Joyce was preceded in death by her Husband Marvin Lenon; Her parents Harry and Elsie Mumm; Mother in Law Elva Hanson (Lenon); Brother in Law Dale Lenon, Brother in Law Gus Lenon Jr; Siblings Willard Mumm and his wife Erica Mumm, Carl Mumm, LeRoy Mumm, Betty Ashworth, Marcie Evans and her husband Gene Evans.

Joyce graduated from Wales High school in Wales Iowa. She fell in love with and married Marvin Lenon and had one adopted son Tim Lenon. She worked at Boys Town in food services for 36 years until her retirement at the age of 80. In her life she had been a member of Nebraska Order of the Eastern Star, worked in support of the Douglas County Democratic Party, and was involved with the Boy Scouts of America as a volunteer earning Wood Badge and visiting Philmont.

Donations in Lieu of flowers should go to the Boy Scouts of America Mid America Chapter, or to the Prairie Meadows Alzheimer’s Special Care Center Activity Fund in Joyce’s name.

Lorraine Verna Pfeifer

October 9, 1921 – July 17, 2020

Entered into Eternal Peace on July 17, 2020 surrounded by her loving family at her home. Lorraine Verna Zulkoski was the 6th of 9 children born to John B. Zulkoski and Verna Kusek. All were born in their farmhouse in Elyria, NE. Polish was the language spoken in their home. She talked about walking to school for miles unless the weather was bad and then was taken to school by horse and wagon. She moved to Omaha at age 17 with her sister Bernice. After moving to Omaha, she worked at the county hospital as Nurses Aid. When World War II broke out, she went to work at Fairmont making butter designs. While at a singalong she met her future husband Larry Pfeifer. They liked to sing and dance which led to marriage. Larry and Lorraine were married on February 6, 1943. In 1945 they started their family of 7 children. She lived in California from 1977-1987. She had many jobs throughout her life but one of her favorites was demoing food at grocery stores which she did until she was 90, she loved talking to people! Lorraine truly was the queen of crafts. She was known for her beautiful wedding, doll, and birthday cakes, sugar Easter eggs, chocolate chip and sugar cookies, popcorn balls, potato salad, zucchini and banana bread, jelly, butterflies, scrubbers, afghans, and so much more. She loved playing cards with Ron, Jan, Larry Joe, Rick, and Marv (and sometimes Connie) every Monday night since the passing of Larry in 1999. She also enjoyed playing cards with the grandchildren. Lorraine continued to live on her own at her home and drive up until a short time before she passed. Lorraine was so strong for so long. Survived by her 3 daughters, Connie (Dan) Dolan, Jan Redding, and Cindy Andersen; her 4 sons, Ron (Linda), Larry Joe (Caryn), Rick (Phyllis), and Marv (Carl) Pfeifer; her brother Edmund Zulkoski; brother-in-law Gene Novotny; 23 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends. Preceded in death by husband Laurence Pfeifer; mother; father; three sisters; and 4 brothers. We’re sure going to miss our Butterfly Lady. Love you! Harold W. Rounsborg (Hal)

Dr. Harold (Hal) Rounsborg M.D.  of Omaha passed away on July 10,  2020.  He was born in Alliance, NE, October 11, 1938 and raised and educated in Garden County.  He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of NE in Lincoln in 1959.  He received his Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of NE Medical Center in 1963 and interned at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha.  He began his practice in 1964 in Oshkosh, NE for almost 20 years with his partner and Uncle, Burrell Albee.  He returned to Omaha to practice at Immanuel Hospital until he retired.    He was an accomplished pilot and loved to hunt and fish with his children. He proudly served as a Major in the US Army Reserve Corp and honorably discharged in 1974.

He was preceded in death by parents Don and Florence (Campbell) Rounsborg, brother Gerald Rounsborg M.D. and nephews Steven Shumway and Richard Rounsborg.  He is survived by his wife Mary (Shumway) Rounsborg, children Terry Rounsborg M.D., Sherri (Koeppen) Rounsborg, Shari Rounsborg (Terry), Dale Terry, and Curtis Rounsborg, Karen (Pick) Rounsborg.

Grandchildren include Brandon Rounsborg, Shawn Rounsborg (Juli and children Ethan, Tanner and Adelynn) and Miranda Fricke (Dan and children, Ben, Caleb, and Will), Christopher Swanson (Dani and children Gus and Rosie), and Melissa Graham (Kyle and children Max, Abbey, and Lucy), and Hunter Rounsborg.

Arlene Mae (Rudolph)Youmans

 

Arlene Youmans (1928 – 2020)

Arlene Mae (Rudolph) Youmans was born on October 3, 1928 in Fremont, Nebraska to George and Marian (Ibsen) Rudolph. She grew up on the farm with her sister Vernell and attended a Dodge County country school. Arlene graduated from Fremont High School in 1946. She attended Dana College in Blair, Nebraska where she met her future husband James H. Youmans Jr. James and Arlene were married on August 28, 1949 at Bluffs Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Dodge County. Arlene achieved her state teaching credentials in 1948 and taught school at Elkhorn, Nebraska until her husband’s graduation from Dana College in 1950. Her three children Alan, Dale and LuAnne were all born in Blair, Nebraska. The family moved to Persia, Iowa in 1957 where Arlene later returned to teaching elementary school at Tri-Center Community Schools; completing her college degree from Dana College in 1968; and eventually retiring after over 30 years of dedicated teaching. After the death of her husband in 2012 she moved to Omaha, Nebraska to initially live with her loving daughter LuAnne; later moving into the Rolling Hills Ranch independent living facility in 2016. Arlene left Rolling Hills in May, 2020 to live alternatively with her daughter LuAnne and son Alan in the Phoenix, Arizona area. She passed away on June, 27, 2020 in Carefree, Arizona gently supported by Zephyr Hospice Care.

Arlene lived her strong Christian faith everyday of her long life. During her life she was an active member of Bluffs Trinity Lutheran Church, First Lutheran Church (Blair, NE), St; John’s Lutheran Church (Persia, IA), Trinity Lutheran Church (Persia, Iowa) and St. John’s Lutheran Church (Bennington, NE). Arlene taught Sunday School for many years and was active in the Ladies Aid. She possessed a beautiful soprano voice and sang throughout her life in the Dana College Acapella Choir, in her church choirs, at weddings and funerals, and at her Rolling Hills Ranch residence. Arlene was later active in her church quilting group. She made many quilts for her family, friends and their pets. She devoted many years to the Iowa American Legion Auxiliary. Arlene was uniformly viewed as a kind, gentile, considerate person who willingly and humbly gave of herself to others. Anyone who knew Arlene invariably described her as “One of the nicest people I ever met”.

Arlene was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 62 years James (2012); her loving parents George and Marion (Ibsen) Rudolph; her beloved sister Vernell (Rudolph) Ruff; and her treasured brother-in-law Lowell Ruff.

Arlene is survived by her son Alan (Julene) Youmans; son Dale (Yvonne) Youmans; daughter LuAnne Lathrop; granddaughters Allison (Tanner) Forster and Erica Lathrop; great grandsons Hays and Graham Forster; niece Gail (Steve) Samson; her special nephew Wayne (Karen) Ruff; nephew Bruce (Tamara) Ruff; three step-grandchildren; five step-great grandchildren; and many grandnephews, grandnieces, great grandnephews and great grandnieces.

A good life well-lived.

Funeral Services: 11:00 AM, Friday, July 17, 2020 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 322 N. Molley St., Bennington, Nebraska a Private interment at Valley View Cemetery in Persia, Iowa later.
