Jonathan Edward Nelson (Jon)

Jonathan Edward Nelson (Jon) was born on October 25, 1979, in Omaha, NE to David and Teresa Nelson. He was the middle child of three sons and graduated from Omaha North in 1998.  He attended U.N.O. for one year before joining the U.S. Marine Corps; Jon served in the military for four years as a computer programmer and had a great impact on the lives of his fellow Marines. During his military career he received the following awards: Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal; Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; and Navy Unit Commendation.

While stationed in Albany, GA, in 2003, he fell in love with Heather, and they began their lives together. They immediately started a family with their first daughter Brianna born in 2004. Jon and Heather spent the next 16 years in Georgia. During that time, they welcomed Zachary in 2007, Leevi in 2011 and Savannah in 2014.

The experienced gained in the Marines earned him a career of computer programming for the health care industry. During his career he worked for Phoebe Putney Hospital in Albany, Georgia and Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska.

Jon’s favorite pastime was bowling but his true passion was his children. From Boy Scout leader to Girl Scout assistant leader, he was always willing to volunteer in every activity the kids loved. Not many men would proudly wear a t-shirt that said, “Man Enough to Be a Girl Scout”. Everything he did was centered around his children’s lives. Even in sickness he was determined to fulfill his children’s wishes. He also enjoyed camping, hiking, being outdoors, movies and traveling.

Jon was so many things to so many people. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend. Jon will be missed tremendously by all those who knew and loved him.

Preceded in death by his grandparents, Gene and Betty Nelson, George and Mary Ellen Morgan, Aunt Vicki Nelson King, Uncle Doug Nelson, and Mother-In-Law Claudette Seamon.

Survived by wife, Heather; daughters Brianna and Savannah; sons Zachary and Leevi; Mother Teresa, Father and Stepmother, David and Jan; Father-In-Law Howard; Brothers Richard and Mark; Brother-In-Law Jamie, Grandmother-In-Law Sue; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and many cousins.

A Funeral with full military honors will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 30 at the Omaha National Cemetery. Following the service will be a luncheon and Celebration of Life at the Water’s Edge Church starting at 11:45am.
