Bestelle G. Cooper

6/10/1956 – 2/20/2022

Age 65 –Bestelle Cooper, also affectionately called Bessie, in her earlier years, was a clerical worker specialist and lifelong resident of Omaha, NE. On Sunday, February 20, 2022, she transitioned this life in her home at the age of 65.

Bestelle was born in Omaha on June 10, 1956, to Artice Danner and Minnie Hazel Cooper. She graduated from Metro Community College in Omaha, NE, with an associate degree in clerical work. Shortly after graduating, she began her career at First Data Corporation and Physicians Mutual Life Insurance, where she worked for several years. She loved her time working in the office, ensuring that phones were answered, documents were filed, and the daily office duties were meticulously managed.

Bestelle was a devoted mother who raised Ronnie and Cedric, her two boys, on her own. She was an avid card player, loved dominoes, and enjoyed playing a card game called Bid Whiz. During this card game, she loved saying, “That’s a Boston, as she slammed her last card on the table, saying, who is next? Get up off the table.” She enjoyed listening to old-school music. Her favorites were Con Funk Shun, Gap Band, Patrice Rushen, Franky Beverly, Prince, Marvin Gay, Earth Wind & Fire, and her brother, Wali Ali! Her love for music was evident in her extensive stash of records of various artists. You could believe Bestelle had the album if you wanted to hear it.

Bestelle loved to cook for her two boys and dress them in suits for every Easter occasion in her younger years – she loved seeing her boys dressed up. A typical Saturday at the Cooper household would consist of music being played, food being cooked, and a gathering of family and friends for a friendly game of cards!

Bestelle loved reading Black history, writing in her journal, and reflecting on life in her spare time. She was the gatekeeper of any historical documents and family pictures.

Bestelle is survived by her two sons, Ronald (Kimberly) and Cedric (Donella) Cooper; grandchildren, Jakobe, Ashton, Artice; sister, Rayomie Hawkins; brother, Wali Ali Cooper and a host of other family and friends.

Her favorite verses of scripture seem to describe her best. “I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:11-13 Yet in all situations or roles, she treasured these above all – Mom, Sister, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Aunt, Friend, Sister in Christ, Daughter of the King – Jesus.
