Allan Cody Richards (Big Al)

Allan Cody Richards (Big Al) was the first-born son of five children to the late Honey Boyce and Evelyn (Maddox) Richards on June 26, 1937, in Orange, New Jersey. On February 25, 2022, he was called home after a short illness.

Big Al as he was affectionately called by friends, (when his sister Barbara was visiting, he took her to meet some of his friends and she called him Allan. He immediately told his friends they were to call him Allan until she left) began his education in the Orange, New Jersey public school system, and later received his GED in the military. Al was in the United States Air Force and served his country for twenty years 1954-1974.

After leaving the military Al received his certificate as a HVAC Technician. A “Jack of All Trades” Al held several jobs through the years including car salesman, bartender, restaurant host, painter and others.

Allan loved being with family and friends, singing karaoke and sometimes giving his siblings nick names. He gave his sister Dianne the nick name of Dinkey. His friends loved to hear him sing at his favorite watering hole “A Touch of Class.”

Allan was a 32-degree Mason and a Shriner. Many thanks go out to the Starks and McGhee families and his former Touch of Class co-workers for their help.

Allan was a free spirit, who loved to live life on his own terms. You never had to wonder what Al was thinking because he had no problem speaking his mind. He will be remembered for his candor and for the way that he would speak the truth, no matter the circumstances.

Allan leaves to cherish his memory; three sisters Barbara Richards, Dianne Richards of South Orange New Jersey, and Honey Beatrice Loyal of Baltimore, Maryland; one brother Charles Richards of Douglasville, Georgia; four cousins Margie Bozeman, Kathryn Richards, Geraldine Warren, all of New Jersey and Clyde Richards of Florida; and a host of nephews, nieces, family, and friends.
On behalf of the Richard’s family siblings, we thank Allan’s Omaha family for the love and support given to him over these many years.
