Vera M. Nash was the youngest of five children born to Shelton and Louise Nash on May 12, 1943 in Kosciusko, Mississippi. On August 12, with her loving family by her side, God opened Heaven’s gates and called her for eternal rest.

Vera was reared, nurtured in a loving and Christian home. She recognized at an early age, the need for God’s love, guidance, and strength. This belief was maintained throughout her life. She was a faithful and dedicated Jehovah’s Witness. She met and married the love of her life, Willie Stennis on June 20, 1964; to that union, one year later, James Marlon was born.

Vera’s career path started in childcare with her son and later employed at the Internal Revenue Service where she retired after many years of service. She went on to work several years in the Bakery at Baker’s Supermarket on 50th Ames Street; she would finally retire from Omaha Public Schools.

She was the best baker hands down! Her homemade caramel and pound cake were scrumptious and delicious. It was always a treat to bring home some slices of cake. Whenever Marlon “James” would come home on the weekends from Lincoln, she would always bake one and send half back with him. She also made him his very own “BIG” bowl of banana pudding.

Vera and her grandson, Brandon share the same birthday (May 12), which is a very special bond for the two of them. She had a soft spot for nephew Johnny Nash. When he was younger and would get into trouble, she would always pick him up and run away with him to protect him.

She loved music, especially the oldies “Motown” and when a song came on that she liked, she would always say “Hey! That’s my song” with a big smile, while singing along and snapping her fingers to the beat.

Vera loved her family and loved by many. She is survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law, James Marlon & Nancy Stennis, grandchildren: Jason White, Jacob Lindsey, Brandon and Cameron Stennis; great grandchildren: Jayden and Ze’Leya; brother, David Nash (Edna), a very special goddaughter, Delresa (Meyers) Noland and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Stennis; her parents, Shelton & Louise Nash, her siblings: Gladys Nash Scott, Charles Nash and Hervin Nash; in-laws: Shirley Stennis, Ivory Dean, Sharon Schultz, and Melvin Stennis.
