Bob attended Minne Lusa School and graduated from North High School in 1945 where he had romanced Mary Louise Miller and married her in 1949.  Bob and Mary truly enjoyed 65 years together raising a family in their Christian faith while living life to its fullest.

Bob served in WW II as an engineer in the Philippines whose battalion repaired and replaced navigational towers destroyed in battle—notably in areas where the enemy was unaware the war had ended and refused to surrender in each instance without a fight.

Following his discharge from the Army, Bob continued to attend the University of Omaha where he earned his certificate from the NE Real Estate Department and a B.S. degree in business and engineering.  Bob joined his father in a real estate, appraisal and property management firm named RF Mitchell and Son Real Estate which was a very successful company that employed many salespeople, including the first female real estate salesperson in Omaha, according to Bob Sr.   Bob and his father continued to work together until 1977 when the real estate sales operation merged with the Maenner Company.   Bob rejoined the firm, Mitchell and Associates, and his son Gregg in 1985.   The firm specializes in real estate appraisals of residential, industrial, commercial and special purpose properties and continues to thrive to this day.    Bob continued to be active in the firm until 2012 when, at age 85, he retired.

Bob was active in a number of professional organizations, serving in leadership roles in most of them.   RF Mitchell & Son was one of the founding members of the Omaha MLS in 1949 now known as  Great Plains Regional MLS.   Other organizations include the Nebraska Realtors Association, Omaha Area Board of Realtors, Society of Real Estate Appraisers, Appraisal Institute, Omaha Jaycees,  Omaha Chamber of Commerce, Omaha Executive Association, Kiwanis, various SID boards and his neighborhood association.

Bob was an active member of the Scottish Rite as well as the Tangier Shrine through 2019.   Freemasonry was an important part of both Bob and Mary’s lives as many of the friendships  they enjoyed were based in that association.

Bob and Mary’s travels took them to nearly every state in the US and included the Caribbean and several self-guided trips to Europe in recent years.   Bob and Mary took up skiing in the early 1960s which led to many trips to Colorado with friends and family.   They particularly enjoyed travelling with large groups to Aspen for many years.   They later acquired a condo near Silverthorne, Colorado where they continued to entertain family and friends into their 70’s.   Bob and Mary particularly enjoyed 50 years of entertaining family and friends at their lakeside cabin at Hansen’s Lake with water skiing, boating and sailing, games and wonderful parties.    Bob and Mary were lucky enough to have a large number of friends and equally loved to entertain at all venues.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife Mary, parents, Robert F Mitchell, Sr. and Geil C Mitchell.   He is survived by his children Gregg (Donna) Mitchell, Ken Mitchell, David (Kimberly) Mitchell and special friend Cyndi Fontanello.  Other survivors include grandchildren Molly (Scott) Slater, Kim (Aaron) Broweleit, Logan Mitchell, Merrill Mitchell, Ryan Mitchell: great-grandchildren Liam and Sidney Slater.

Memorials to Tangier Transportation and Lutheran Church of the Master.
