Naomi Ellen Hawkins was born December 8, 1944 in Omaha, NE to parents Mildred (deceased 1995) and Dietz Coglizer (deceased 1968). She was the youngest of three children. Her siblings are Gary (deceased 2010) and Gail. She was raised in Omaha and graduated from North High in 1963.

Naomi married her first husband, Henry Niemeyer, in 1965 and moved to Albion, NE.  Her two daughters Teri and Tracy were born while living there. She moved her entire family to Omaha after Henry suffered severe injuries from a car accident. This allowed her to be closer to family and Henry’s rehabilitation.

She married her current husband and best friend, Ralph Hawkins, in 1974 and grew her family by two daughters, Debby and Michelle. The “Yours, Mine & Ours” family was completed with the birth of their son Paul.

In 1987 Naomi left her full-time homemaking job to begin working at Central States Insurance of Omaha. She started out doing part-time filing work. Her longest position held at CSO was Benefits Supervisor. While there, she made many lasting friendships.

In 2001 Naomi was diagnosed with a rare blood disease. She received a life-saving bone marrow transplant with donated stem cells from her brother Gary. In July of 2005, after a long recovery period, she began working as a part-time receptionist at Farmers National Company. She continued to make more lasting friendships. She retired from the work force in February 2014 at the age of 69.

Naomi’s family was most important to her. Her children and grandchildren were the lights of her life.

Naomi had a special life-long bond with her sister Gail, who she cherished dearly. Gail and her husband Mike (deceased 2017) were a constant source of strength and support throughout Naomi’s life.  She also loved her many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.

Naomi’s main focus was her faith, family, and friends. She fought cancer for 19 years by relying on her strength, optimism, and relationship with God. She was an amazing matriarch who ruled with love and acceptance of everyone she met. Her home and kitchen were always open to family, friends, and new people who were soon to become friends.

She will be deeply missed.
