There are many words to describe Myrtle Berhow. There are the normal terms, daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and even great grandmother. In between all those descriptions, there was so much more to her.

To start off, hands down, she made the best lefse, potato salad and date cake!

Myrtle was the love of her husband’s life. She was the woman who made a safe and warm home for a husband and two little girls growing up in a trailer. That same woman could pack up that trailer, tie everything down, and be ready to hit the road on Friday night when Gene would come home from work, hook up the trailer and the family would head to the next location for his work.

With two young daughters, Myrtle finished up her high school education through a correspondence school. Even at that young age, she garnered so much respect from those same young girls as they watched their mother complete her education.

She was a self-taught seamstress, a dog and horse lover, a skilled horsewoman, a chap maker who was highly respected for her skill and talent, the barn manager at the Berhow acreage, a bowler, a camper and a Mom who would show up at your door when you had a baby with colic to give you some much needed relief. No matter the situation, Myrtle was so calm it settled those around her. She was many things, to many people, but we were the lucky ones, we got to call her Mom!
