Jim was born on September 24, 1970 in Council Bluffs, IA. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1989 and went on to study psychology at Northwest Missouri State University. This is where he met his wife, Tracy, and was active in the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. Tracy and Jim were married on January 7, 1994 and started their married life in Chicago, where Jim was completing his Masters and then Doctorate program at the Adler School of Professional Psychology (Now Adler University). Jim and Tracy moved to the Omaha area in the summer of 1999, so Jim could complete his post-doctoral training and then eventually made Omaha their home. Jim was a clinical psychologist and focused his profession on working with Omaha’s youth, veterans, those with disabilities, and forensic psychological exams. Jim loved to hunt and fish. In January of 2020, Jim received the ‘Super 10 Slam of North America Award’. This award is presented to hunters that kill one from each of the ten categories listed – sheep, antelope, goat, bison/muskox, moose, caribou, elk, deer, cats (cougar or jaguar) and bear. Though hunting and fishing was important to Jim, his most cherished times were spent with his children, Mady, and Gabe. He loved going to their sporting events, school activities, hunting with them, spending weekends at Lake WaConda, and just being by their side as they have grown.
Jim is survived by his wife: Tracy; children: Mady & Gabe; parents: Don & Wanda Mathisen; brother: Tim; father & mother-in law: David & Sharon Dickman; sister & brother-in-law: Marcy & Brian Berry; niece & nephew: Britney & Patrick; and other loving family & friends.
