Geraldine was born March 1, 1931 in Hamburg, IA, to Jay M. and Nellie Mary Beach. Geraldine along with her twin brother Gerald, were the youngest of the five children. She went to grade school and high school in Hamburg, graduating with the Class of 1949.
Some of her fondest memories growing up were of Beach Jewelry, a store owned by her parents for 40 years and later passed to her brother who owned it for 35 years. Another memory was her enjoyment of taking piano and organ lessons, which she continued to play as an adult.
In 1949, Geraldine married Wendell Matheny, and moved to Omaha. Together they had three children, Jeff, Wende and Phillip. Geraldine raised the family in the Benson area where she lived for 35 years. Geraldine had many special memories of raising her children; helping Phillip build a garage with the neighbors, spending time at Dr. JP Lord School with Wende, and attending the many school musical programs that Jeff was part of. She worked for Omaha Public Schools and Briggs Pump Co. for many years and enjoyed her work.
On December 1, 1985, Geraldine married Lloyd. The couple met through friends at a dance at Peony Park in Omaha. Llyod was employed by the Department of Agriculture. Due to Llyod’s job they moved to Peru, IL and later to Springfield, IL, residing in Illinois for 15 years. She enjoyed accompanying Llyod on his numerous business trips during their time in IL. While living in Springfield she was a dedicated gift shop volunteer at Springfield Memorial Hospital. After Llyod passed away in 2009, Geraldine returned to Omaha, living at Sunridge Village. She moved to Esprit Whispering ridge in December 2020.
Geraldine loved to dance and participated in numerous activities; book club, Prayer Shawl Ministry, group puzzles, nightly Mahjong at Sunridge, and Wii bowling – until she hurt her shoulder bowling.
Most of all, Geraldine enjoyed the company of friends and family.
