David Bailey Sr. was born June 13, 1941 in Barlow, Mississippi to Eddie Bailey Sr. and Madonia Viola Martin. He departed this life, July 30, 2020. David attended school in Barlow until he was a teenager. In 1958 he moved with his younger siblings to Omaha, Nebraska. He attended and graduated from Technical High School.
David started singing and dancing at an early age. He loved music and it played an especially important role in his life. He also played guitar. He joined Salem Baptist Church and sang in the choir. Later he sang in a band with his brother Joe called the Gospel Travelers.
David was the former spouse of Vina Bailey (Williams) and from that union five children, David Jr., Vanessa, Terence, Lisa, and Tony were born. The two remained amicable after their union. David was preceded in death by Vina. During his life David worked as a bus driver for the city of Omaha driving for Metro Transit for thirty years. He also did car restoration with his brother Joe at his car shop. After retiring he went back to work for Omaha Public Schools as a bus driver part-time. He will be remembered for his charming personality, beautiful singing voice, and love for cars.
David was preceded in death by his mother Madonia Viola Martin, father Eddie Bailey Sr, siblings Ruby Lee Bailey, Nannie Lee Bailey Briscoe, Crissie Ree Bailey Chalmers, Eddie Bailey, Jr, William L. Bailey, Sr, Bennie L, Esters, Joseph Bailey, Sr, Paul Bailey, Emanuel Bailey. He is survived by brothers Nathaniel (Laura) Bailey, Yuma, Arizona, and Ernest Wilson, Crystal Springs MS. Sisters Viola Seals, St. Paul, MN; Georgia Nolen, Detroit, MI; Willie Mae Stewman, Jackson, MS; Hazel (Johnny) McGowan, Aurora, IL; Helen Wilson, Crystal Springs, MS; and step-mother Eliza Bailey, Utica, MS. His daughters Vanessa, Lisa (Keith), four sons David Jr., Terence (Cynthia), Tony, and Devin; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
