Charles Lee Galloway, Sr.
November 11, 1944 – July 18, 2022
Charles Lee Galloway, Sr., age 77, born November 11, 1944, in Omaha, Nebraska to Boyd Vernon Galloway and Julia Vivian Galloway. Charles was the youngest of three, brother to his sister, Joanne and brother, Boyd Jr. After graduating from Omaha Technical High School in 1963, he studied Business Administration at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
In 1966 he enlisted into the U.S. Army and served as an infantry soldier in the 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam from 1966-1967. After being wounded in action and receiving the Purple Heart Medal, he returned to the U.S. and completed his enlistment in 1968. Following his return to Omaha, he joined his father in Galloway Electric, the first Black-owned electrical contracting business in Nebraska.
In addition to using his Master Electrician skills in residential and commercial work, he taught at Metro Community College and worked at Union Pacific Railroad, and Omaha Public Power District from which he retired.
In December 1968, he married Delores Marie Spears of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. To this union were born three children: Charles Lee Jr., Brian, and Julia. In July 2002, he married Veronica Lewis.
A lifelong member of Hope Lutheran Church, he served as congregational President, church elder, choir member and delegation member to the Lutheran Missouri Synod for over 40 years. In addition to his hobbies of model building, fishing, and grilling, Charles was a regular cast member in multiple community plays at the former John Beasley Theater.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Boyd V., and Julia V. Galloway. He is survived by his loving wife, Veronica Galloway, sister, JoAnne Sanders, Omaha, brother Boyd V. Galloway, Jr., Idaho, sister, Katheryn Cain, Chicago; Children, Charles (Marianne) Galloway Jr., Florida, Brian (Angela) Galloway, Omaha, Julia Galloway, and their mother, Delores Galloway; Dear friends, Reginald Young, Sr. and family of Omaha. Sister-in- law, Rosetta LaFleur, Maryland; Brother-in law, Tommie Adams (Wilda); Brother-in-law Andrew Spears (Lena) of Louisiana; Stepchildren: Lora (Anthony) Proctor, and Danielle Eden (Jerome Woody), Washington state; Nephews Tommie J. Adams Jr. (Washington, D.C.), Robert B. (Elizabeth) Adams, Omaha; nieces Julie L. (Anthony) Anderson, Omaha, Nieema Galloway, California, and Kathy Cain, Chicago; grandchildren Dillon, Madeline, Aidan and Julian Galloway; grandchildren Markiss (Ashley), Ronald (Quinnita), and Jazmyne and Angelo Proctor; grand-nieces and grand-nephews Zach, Ian and Avery Adams, Ella and Jonah Anderson; great grandchildren Ajia, Tyra, Avree, Skylar, Olivia, and Lori.
