Erma J. Sweet (Hedgecock) of Omaha, NE, died Wednesday, January 13, 2021. Erma was born October 28, 1935, daughter to Challice and Mary Kathryn Hedgecock.

Erma is survived by her sons, Micheal (Ann), Craig, and Doug (Kim) Ribeiro; grandchildren Ali, Kathryn, Jennifer, Matthew, and Nikolas; great-grandchildren Tabitha, Epiphany, Zoe, Sofia, Leyla, Elena, and Cora.

She is preceded in death by husband, Jonathan Sweet; parents Challice and Mary Kathryn; and grandson Chadwick Ribeiro. Erma was the last of her siblings: brothers Donny Lee, James, Jack, Arthur; sisters Dorothy, Sylvia, Marilyn, Carolyn, Joan, and Mary Lou.

Erma was raised in Iowa mostly in the Centerville and Des Moines areas. She married her beloved husband, Jonathan in 1968 before he volunteered to go to Vietnam. She worked for several years as a nurse then later dedicated herself to doing things like volunteering at her sons’ school, watching her grandchildren, and traveling with Jon, especially around Nebraska for Veterans Affairs.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the DAV in honor of Jonathan & Erma Sweet.

A service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday (1/23/2021) 1:00 PM at Roeder Mortuary -108th St. Chapel. There will be a visitation one hour prior to service from Noon- 1:00 PM.  Services will be live streamed on Roeder Mortuary – 108th Street Chapel Facebook page. Ashes to be interred at a later date at the family plot in Iowa.

Survived by children Marilyn (Rob) Hansen, Jo DeMars (Richard Schumann), Pat (Lynn) Schooley, James Schooley, Connie (Mark) Dunwoody, and Mike (Colleen) Schooley; sister Evelyn Canoy; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; many cousins, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
