Ruthie L. Perry

October 16, 1942 – May 30, 2020

Sister Ruthie Perry was born to the parents of James and Frances Daniel, on October 16, 1942 in Hamburg, Arkansas. 

She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and became a member of Sweet Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Selma, Arkansas.

In 1965 she moved to Omaha, Nebraska and was united in holy matrimony to Robert N. Perry.

She joined the the Second Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor H. Stewart and assistant Pastor David Triplett until their death and now her present Pastor Lamont Smith. She served as a faithful deaconess, choir member and part of the kitchen committee until her health failed. 

She leaves to cherish in loving memory; son Darren (Linda) Daniel, granddaughter and great grandson Shyretta and Spencer Johnson, grandson and great grandson De’Narius and Iyam Daniel. Brother Ben (Savannah) Daniel of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Sister Arlean Pierce, Brother Frank (Charlene)Daniel and a very special aunt and companion Johnnie McGhee all of Omaha, Nebraska and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Helen Sinh Dang

Helen Sinh Dang died peacefully at home surrounded by family on May 25, 2020. She was born in Hanoi, Vietnam on February 14, 1941 and came to the United States as a refugee. She lived in Omaha and Seal Beach, CA. Helen Sinh leaves behind her loving husband of 55 years, Michel C. Tran; five adoring children, Mary Helen, Patrick, Serge, Mary Ann, and Sonya; and eight grandchildren who brought her constant joy. Helen Sinh selflessly devoted her life to her family, friends and career as a Pediatrician, professor, and an advocate for abused children. Her office was full of pictures of her young patients who loved her and whom she loved. Her students awarded Dr. Sinh the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching at Creighton University School of Medicine. Dr. Sinh’s lifetime advocacy on behalf of abused children was heroic and she was awarded the Kids First Award by Project Harmony. She was also deeply religious and truly believed her faith helped guide her throughout her extraordinary and full life. Above all else, she made her family her first priority. Her family has requested that her Funeral Service remain Private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Project Harmony, or St. James Catholic Church in Omaha.

Charles Edward Whitney

Charles Edward Whitney Age 58 of Omaha, Nebraska passed away on May 23, 2020.

He was born June 26, 1961 in Omaha, Nebraska to Theodore and Rosa Lee (Freeman) Whitney.

Charles graduated from Sacred Heart grade school in 1980. During the

summer, he participated in the Omaha Nebraska Academy Camp

where he enjoyed adventuring into the great outdoors. He was fascinated with

catching fish and turtles.

He went on to Dominican High School in 1981. Charles loved sports

and participated in wrestling, football and basketball. He won

several trophies and medals for wrestling.  Charles exhibited so much

talent in this area and surely could have been a professional athlete

and gone on to be one of the greatest. He worked hard to keep himself physically fit. He enjoyed karate and was an avid fan of the University of Nebraska football team. Charles became a trained professional chef, worked as a tradesman and was awarded Employee of the Month on several occasions. Ruby Tuesday Restaurant where he worked for 14 years. Although Charles faced some challenges on earth, we are confident that he will be a shining star in heaven.

Charles is preceded in death by his father; Theodore Whitney and

grandparents; John and Gladys Freeman.

Robert (Bob) James Dietze

Robert (Bob) James Dietze, 88, passed away at his home in Gretna, NE on May 26, 2020.

Bob was born in Ashland, NE on October 24, 1931 to Fred and Gladys Dietze. He grew up in a family of 5 children in Gretna, NE. He graduated from Gretna High School in 1949 where he excelled in basketball and baseball. On February 15, 1952 Bob married Darlene Hansen at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Gretna, NE and then was drafted into the Army in July of 1952. He was sworn in at Fort Omaha, NE and traveled to southern Missouri for Orientation then assigned to Fort Leonard Wood, MO for Boot Camp. After completing heavy equipment operator school he became a bulldozer instructor and Darlene moved to Ft. Leonard Wood to join him. In the fall of 1953 Bob was stationed at Darmstadt, Germany as part of the Army of Occupation and Darlene then moved back to Gretna to wait for his return. Bob was assigned as a bulldozer operator to the 547th Engineer Battalion (Combat) where his unit was tasked with bridging the Rhine River with pontoon boats in the event of a Soviet attack.

During this time Bob also played basketball on the Company team that traveled around Germany playing other Army teams. Bob was discharged from the Army as a Corporal on July 12, 1954 and returned to Gretna to join his wife and raise their family of 4 children: Alan, Susan, David and Bill. Bob farmed and raised livestock in the Gretna area until he retired in 1999. Bob enjoyed camping and fishing, square dancing and throwing horseshoes. He was an avid card player and enjoyed cribbage and bridge. His pride and joy were his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Gladys, sister and brother-in-law Virginia and Robert Bergsten; brother and sister-in-law Ray and Aldine Dietze; sister and brother-in-law Lois and Ralph Dohse; and son-in-law Roger Clegg.

Bob is survived by his wife Darlene; son Alan (Ann) Dietze; daughter Susan Clegg; son David Dietze (Darcy Iske) all of Gretna; son Bill (Cathy) Dietze of Reston, VA; sister Delores (Willard) Bishop and brother-in-law Harold Hansen, all of Gretna. Grandchildren Paul (Mindy) Dietze, Patrick (Tamara) Dietze and Christopher (Jessica) Dietze; Andrew (Sara) Clegg and Melanie (Cory) VanBlarcom; Andrea (Mike Stark) Dietze, Bryan (Kristina Johnson) Dietze and Sara (David) Lease; Jared (Kellie) Dietze and Miranda Dietze. Great-grandchildren Alexzandra and Skylar; Izsobella, Illythia and Indyanna; Gabriella and Anastazya; Joshua, Thomas and Charles; Abram and Veda; Abby, Ashleigh and Joseph; William and Samuel; Taylor and Piper; Many nieces and nephews, family and friends. Bob was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church, a life member of the Gretna VFW Post 10725 and a lifelong member of The Gretna American Legion Post 216.

Visitation Monday, June 1, 2020 from 3:00-4:30 PM (Following CDC Guidelines) at Roeder Mortuary 11710 Standing Stone Dr., Gretna, NE followed by a Private Memorial Service. Memorials to Resurrection Lutheran Church in Gretna.
